Janet Sue Jones' Obituary
Janet Sue Jones, 74, of Chesterfield, Missouri, formerly of Pinckneyville and Flora, Illinois, passed
away at 5:57 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at St. Louis’s Mercy Hospital at the age of 74 years, 4 months, and 24 days.
Janet was born in Moline, Illinois on April 3, 1951, to the late Max Wickiser and Lillian Ruth (Edwards) Wickiser. Janet married Larry William Jones on February 7, 1969, in Clay County, and they shared nearly 53 years of marriage until Larry’s passing in January 2022. Janet was a woman of many gifts and passions with a deep love for both creativity and family. She expressed herself beautifully through painting, drawing, and writing, and found peace and joy in reading and learning. She loved to travel, especially when it meant spending time with her family at the beach where she delighted in hunting for seashells and being in the water. At home, Janet enjoyed cooking and tending the vegetables in the garden she and Larry tended together for years as she nurtured the beauty of nature around her. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted member of her church where she poured her heart into children’s and various other ministries, faithfully attending Bible study as often as she could. Above all, Janet cherished the time she spent with her loved ones, creating memories that will be treasured forever. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, granddaughter, and friend.
Janet is survived by her four children: Paul (Ruben) Jones of Oakland, California, Tammy (Brooke) Jones-Anderson of Ellisville, Missouri, Christina “Chrissy” Jones of Fairfax, Virginia, Mary (Joseph) Jackson of DuQuoin, Illinois, her five grandchildren: Brianah Jones of St. Louis, Missouri, Timothy Meier of Carbondale, Illinois, Samuel Horn of Petersburg, Indiana, Kaylee Horn of Ellisville, Missouri, and Danielle Jackson of DuQuoin, Illinois, her three sisters: Sammie Wickiser of Louisville, Illinois, Charlotte Norman of Panama City, Florida, and Dixie Wickiser of Farwell, Michigan, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends, all of whom she treasured.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents and husband, by her only brother, Dr. Daniel Norton Wickiser, D.C., by a brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Sheila Jones, by her grandmother-in-law Lotha Jones, and a dear sister-in-law Debbie Jones.
