Marc Williamson

After a yearlong struggle with renal cancer, Marc Anthony Williamson of Dallas, TX passed away on November 6, 2024 at the age of 54. Many who knew Marc can attest to his gentle and compassionate nature, and he will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues alike. Marc was born in Killeen, Texas on February 25, 1970 to Barbara Jean Williamson Macon. Those who only knew him as an adult would not have guessed that the 6'1" tall man began his life at a mere 5 1/2 lb 20" long babe. As a tow-headed, blue-eyed kid, Marc spent many happy hours with his mom boating at Stillhouse Hollow Lake, close to where his grandparents had built their home and ran a worm farm/country store with their friends and neighbors, the Yearwoods. Other happy memories during this time include picking apples and collecting pecans with his grandmother, Nanny, from the backyard orchard to turn into pies, as well as walking with his younger cousin Monica from their grandparents' house to the lake via an overgrown path. Each being only children, Marc and Monica turned to each other as siblings, albeit without the rivalry. Marc's creative mind made their treks more entertaining, as he inspired her to look for signs of forest sprites and other magical creatures along the way. Marc kept this sense of mysticism throughout his life, and a bag of runes would later be found among his possessions. It is a matter of current debate whether or not he consulted them on a regular basis. Marc graduated from Killeen High School and was pursuing a degree in English at Central Texas College before deciding to move and study at the Art Institute of Dallas. After graduating with an Associate of Applied Arts, he worked as a graphic designer at Taylor Publishing/Balfour for over a decade. It was the declining health and subsequent death of his dear Nanny in 2011 that inspired him to pursue a career in nursing. In 2016, Marc graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BSN from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Dallas. He worked at Highland Springs Senior Living and then Methodist Hospital before finding his niche as an epidemiologist with the Dallas County Health and Human Services Communicable Disease Division. There, he served tirelessly for 7 years, helping to usher the community through the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as outbreaks of the monkeypox virus and hepatitis B, among others. He was admired for patient care, concern for the community at large, and for sharing his knowledge and expertise with his colleagues. When not working, Marc indulged a passion for downhill skiing, and Lake Tahoe was his favorite place to lose himself in the snowy mountains. He also enjoyed taking lengthy walks with his close friend Pearl and socializing with his lifelong friend David, who had also moved to Dallas from Killeen. Marc was especially devoted to his mother, who passed away from complications due to dementia six months ago. Marc's tight knit family all enjoyed spending holidays together, playing Scrabble and Quiddler, watching movies, and sharing delicious food. Marc was never far from a steaming cup of tea and would offer to make one for anyone within earshot. His wry sense of humor could come out of nowhere and almost startle, since it was so at odds with his mostly reserved demeanor. Marc is preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Jean Williamson Macon, and maternal grandparents, Bernis Carl Williamson and Myrtle Bobbitt Williamson. He is survived by his aunt, Shirley Ann Weiler, and cousin, Monica Weiler Mueller, both of Austin, TX.
