Established in 2017, our funeral home and cemetery has evolved greatly over the years to accommodate the evolving needs of our community. Yet our commitment to service remains the same. Even as we modernize our services and facilities, we stay true to our belief that honoring and celebrating life is deeply sacred and personal.

2017
Jon & Erin Hughes officially opened Hughes Funeral Alternatives on South Grand Boulevard in South City St. Louis. The company was the first and still is the only provider of Aquamation in the State of Missouri.
2022
After steadily growing, Hughes Funeral Alternatives was in need of a bigger location. In December of 2022, Jon & Erin purchased Hillcrest Abbey Cemetery from the Zell family. This space allows the Hughes Family not only to provide Aquamation, but funeral services, burials, entombments, and inurnments.
2023
The 'Garden of Renewal' is opened at Hillcrest Abbey Cemetery. This is the first and only bio-degradable urn garden in St. Louis
2024
Hughes Funeral Alternatives starting offering 'Aquamation for Pets' making them the first and only Aquamation provider for pets in the St. Louis area.

Jonathan E. Hughes
Owner, Missouri Licensed Funeral Director, Embalmer, and Aquamation Operator
Jon was born and raised in Farmington, Missouri. He started working at a local funeral home when he was 15 years only and quickly developed a passion for the funeral business. After high school he attended St. Louis Community College – Forest Park and earned his degree in Funeral Service Education.
Jon has worked in the funeral industry for over 15 years. He is a Missouri licensed funeral director, embalmer, and crematory operator.
Jon’s skepticism about Aquamation turned into fascination which ultimately led to the realization that it would be a welcomed choice to families as they make funeral arrangements. Jon’s committed to provide the best service possible to families.

Erin L. Hughes
Owner & Manager
Erin was born and raised in Florissant, Missouri. She graduated high school from Incarnate Word Academy and attended college at Truman State University where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science.
After graduation, Erin attended Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes Jewish College and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. She is a home health care RN at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Erin and Jon live in Crestwood with their daughter, Maggie; sons: Charlie and Boyer; and dog, Copper.

Jackie Harris
Funeral Director & Apprentice Embalmer
Jackie was born in Florissant and later moved to Wildwood, Missouri. She currently lives in Crestwood with her husband Jerry and their daughters Margeaux and Scarlett. Jackie graduated from Lafayette High School and attended college at the University of Missouri - St. Louis where she received a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Post graduation, she earned her license in Cosmetology.
Jackie worked at WestRock for six years. After having her first daughter she became a stay-at-home mom. During this time, she earned her degree in Funeral Science from American Academy McAllister Institute.
