Thomas "Tom" Hamilton Hughes' Obituary
Thomas Hamilton Hughes passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky at the age of 67.
Tom was born on May 13, 1958 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Thomas E. Hughes and Virginia Mae Hughes (nee Gilbert). He is also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Rev. Grant Minton.
He is survived by his children: Dr. Carly (Jace, SSgt) Haggermaker and Hamilton (Savannah) Hughes, A1C; mother of his children, Sherry Hughes; grandchildren: Jack Haggermaker, Tate Haggermaker, Ahliya Barton, Sebastian Hughes, Waylon Hughes, and Octavia Hughes; siblings: Tonda Minton, Edward (Donna) Hughes, Barbara (Dr. Marcus) Bond, Melissa (Mark) Wilkerson, Kimberly (Robert) McMahon, Elaine (Bryan) Reed, and Jeremy Hughes.
Tom was also a loving uncle, great-uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
Tom was a devoted Kentucky Wildcats football and basketball fan and never missed a chance to tell a good story or crack a joke—whether the moment called for it or not. He became a lawyer in 1989 and spent more than 30 years practicing personal injury law in Louisville, Kentucky, where he dedicated his career to helping others through difficult times. Tom loved to travel and had a deep interest in Civil War history. Among his greatest joys in life were the years he spent coaching his children’s sports teams, creating memories he cherished and that will be remembered by all who knew him
Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Westport Road Church of Christ, 4500 Westport Rd, Louisville, Kentucky 40207. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tom’s name can be made to the American Cancer Society.
