Michael Tyrey passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at Mercy de Greeff Hospice House in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 71 years, 11 months, and 22 days.
Michael was born on September 23, 1953 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Elasco Tyrey and Rosemary Tyrey (nee Boedeker). He is also preceded in death by his siblings: Scott Tyrey, Judy Schaper, and David Tyrey; sister-in-law, Melody Tyrey; and brother-in-law, Bill Yakovitz.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Geri Tyrey; children: Adrienne (Ryan Stoklosa) Tyrey and Natalie Tyrey (Nick) Garvin; grandchildren: Miriam Tyrey Stoklosa and Samuel Dennis Garvin; siblings: Kathi (Dennis) Schmidt; brother-in-law: Mort (Lora) Melman and Ben Schaper; sister-in-law Deborah Yakovitz; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Michael had many passions that brought him joy throughout his life. He loved music—both listening and working behind the scenes as a skilled recording engineer in music, advertising, and television. He had a special connection to St. Louis sports, especially during the times when he was able to combine work with his love of the game. Outside of the studio, Michael enjoyed fishing, camping, and the art of fly tying. He was happiest when surrounded by family and friends, sharing laughter, swapping stories, and delivering his favorite old-school dad jokes.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
