Linda L. Smith's Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Linda Lee Smith on June 15, 2022 at the age of 74.
Linda Lee Smith (nee Williams) was born in Jackson, Michigan on October 8, 1947 to
Gerald and Virginia Williams (nee Dixon). She was raised in Wierton, WV and Jackson, Michigan, graduated from Napoleon High School, and subsequently attended Eastern Michigan University,where she earned a degree in Political Science.
She married Richard "Rick" L Smith in 1969 and had two children, Greg in 1970 and Kelly in 1978. After their wedding in Jackson Michigan, Linda and Rick moved to Carbondale, Illinois and then to Detroit, Michigan before settling in Farmington, Michigan from 1975-1989. While living in Farmington Linda was an administrative assistant in the Farmington Public Schools, including a stint as President of the Union for school support personnel in affiliation with the Michigan Education Association. In 1989 Linda and Richard Rick relocated to Franklin, Tennessee in conjunction with Rick's career at with General Motors, and then moved back to Michigan in 1991, where they lived in Farmington, then moved to Ann Arbor, moved again to Clark Lake, and again to Strawberry Lake Pinckney until 2015. In retirement (2015), Linda and Rick moved to Columbia, Missouri to be closer to their grandchildren, Allen and Robin.
Linda enjoyed time with close friends and family throughout her life. She was well-known for her indomitable spirit, her candor, her keen generosity, and her numerous interests and loves, including Michigan professional and collegiate sports, domestic and international travel,
political discussion, restaurant dining, dancing, wine, and spoiling her grandkids and favorite dog, Iggy. Shortly before she passed, Linda happily celebrated Mother's Day with close family members.
Linda is survived by her husband, Rick; two children: Greg (Christine) and Kelly; as well as her two grandchildren: Allen and Robin; and her brothers Jerry (Shirley) andl Danny (Sue) Williams.
In recognition of Linda being a lung transplant recipient, the family requests that those wishing to make a memorial denotation, make donations to Mid-America Transplant (www.midamericatransplant.org).
