Joseph Bernard Raftery passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Delmar Gardens West in Chesterfield, Missouri at the age of 80 years, 8 months, and 8 days
.
Joseph was born on April 28, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Joseph Peter Raftery and Mildred Raftery (nee Mayer). He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Paul Kimbrough and brother-in-law, John DiFatta.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Rose Raftery (nee Politte); children: Jeanne (Chris Thornhill) Jeanne Raftery-Thornhill, Joseph J. (Heather) Raftery, and Kristin Raftery; grandchildren: Jai (Hailey) Thornhill, James Kimbrough, Tori Thornhill, Dru Thornhill, Lily Raftery, Melody Raftery, and Tyler Kies; great-granddaughter, Phoenix Thornhill; sister, Pat DiFatta, and beloved dog, Saige.
Joseph was also a beloved uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
Joseph was a proud veteran of the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War.
Spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, was one of Joseph's favorite things to do. He also enjoyed float trips, camping, working in his yard pulling weeds, and listening to music'
Joseph had a deep passion for sports. He was a very important member of the speed skating community and an avid golfer. He also loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals.
A roadside service where full military honors will be rendered will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri. Friends and family who are attending the service are asked to meet in the cemetery office by 12:45 p.m.
