Gregory Hoy
John and I go back to Our Lady of the Pillar grade school. As a young lad, the Yoch's treated me like one of theirs whenever I visited. I would say I visited at least a dozen times from third grade through sixth. The Yoch's were the kindest people: Mrs. Yoch did not drive, and she was home often. On Saturday's, my mother would drop me off and occasionally take Kay shopping. Mr. Yoch would always be working outdoors on Saturday but was a kind and peaceful man. When John and I would break something, or get into mischief, he would always make it right and laugh it off. The front yard had to be 300 feet from the house to the street; so we always played catch or kicked the football. Basketball was not John's thing. And of course, the most important thing...the Yoch's always had peppermint ice cream in the freezer. I am sad that John has passed away; but memories of John and visiting the Yoch house always bring a smile. He was a great guy and I only wish I could have told him so later in life.
