Jerrold Norman Siegel's Obituary
Jerrold “Jerry” Norman Siegel passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri at age 85.
Jerry was born on October 16, 1939 in New York, New York to the late Herman Siegel and the late Lucille Anolick (nee Davis.)
Jerry is survived by his loving wife for over 53 years, Cynthia Siegel (nee Freedman); children: Alex (Rochelle) Siegel, Josh (Beth) Siegel, Jon (Carmen) Hertzig, Beth (Jody O’Sullivan) Hertzig, Amie Hertzig, and Debra (Steve) Taxman.
He was a devoted grandpa to Avery, Ethan, and Justin Siegel; Amber, Adrian, and Aspen Siegel; Vic, Emily, and Henry Thompson, and Theo Hertzig; Robert, Amanda, and Jordan Shifrin; Rubie Leyla and Django Hertzig; and Emilee and Nicole Taxman.
He is also survived by his brother, Gilbert (Winnie) Siegel; extended family members, Allan and Suzanne Freedman, Bob and Nancy Taxman, and many adoring nieces and nephews. He was a beloved friend to many, including lifelong friends Jerry Atkins and Lil Price, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jerry earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1961 and a doctorate degree in Mathematics from Cornell University in 1964. He was Emeritus Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science and former Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Technology at the University of Missouri – St. Louis.
