Gary O'Neil McDonnough's Obituary
Gary O'Neil McDonnough, 74, formerly of New Carlisle, Indiana, passed away at his home in Pacific, Missouri on Saturday, February 19, 2022.
Gary was born on April 19, 1947 to the late Mildred (Wilkey) and Maurice McDonnough in Centralia, Illinois.
He is survived by his 3 children, Ryan McDonnough of Portland, Oregon; Chelsea (Brad) Neiswinger of Avon, Indiana; Paige (Allen) Tindall of Pacific, Missouri; and 4 grandchildren, Owen and Emmett Neiswinger; Mildred and Joseph Tindall. Gary was preceded in death by his father Maurice, mother Mildred, and sister Patricia.
Gary served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1976. He became a member of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 172 in 1968, where he worked as a pipefitter and later served as business manager from 1992-1995. Gary moved to Pacific, Missouri in 1995 to work for Chrysler in Fenton, Missouri. He retired from Chrysler in 2008.
Gary was an avid car and motorsport enthusiast. In his early years, he raced quarter midgets and snowmobiles. From 1991 to 1995, Gary raced in the NHRA Sportsman Super Comp class. Later in life, he spent his freetime working on and driving his 1967 Oldsmobile 442. Gary also enjoyed attending races, especially the Knoxville Nationals.
A graveside service will take place on Saturday, March 5th at 11:00 a.m. ET at the New Carlisle Cemetery. A celebration of life for Gary will immediately follow at Monroe's Crossing 7038 N Chicago Rd, New Carlisle, IN.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Drag Racing Association of Women in Gary's honor.
