Elaine Emma Louise Shearman's Obituary
Elaine Emma Louise Shearman (nee Baese) passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025 at her residence in Sheridan, Arkansas.
Elaine Emma Louise Baese Shearman was born October 11, 1931; she was the first child born to Clara Grebing and Edward Baese in Richmond Heights, Missouri. She was baptized at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, and was blessed to receive a parochial education at Concordia, Maplewood and Hope, St. Louis where she was confirmed and given the Bible passage: “Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price.” 1 Cor. 6: 19-20a
From an early age, Elaine expressed an artistic bent, as did her paternal grandfather, Rev. Ernest Baese, before her. Encouraged by her parents, she further developed that skill at Southwest High and went on to receive a Bachelor's Degree in 1953 from the School of Fine Art at Washington University, St. Louis. Elaine utilized this gift in multiple ways, one of which was to design, in memory of her parents, the “Our Servant '' stained-glass window for Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Richmond Heights - a congregation her parents had been instrumental in establishing in 1942.
In June of 1951 she met the love of her life, John (“Agape Jack”) Shearman, at a Walther League Watermelon Social in Forest Park. They were married at Luther Memorial on August 23, 1952 and shared 59 years of marriage until his sudden death in 2011. Together they served their Lord in various ways, as He guided, in the congregations to which they belonged and beyond.
Elaine and Jack were blessed with their two children: Jeffrey John (Tess) Shearman and Jennifer Elaine (Knighten) Reed; When the children were still pre-teen, the “major family project” was building their self-designed dream house in Sunset Hills, where they were members of Prince of Peace.
In 1973, they moved to Chesterfield where the children greatly influenced the family decision to become members at King of Kings Lutheran Church. That same year Elaine began work with the Parkway School District Food Services, where she had many opportunities to use her creative abilities from designing innovative new kitchen facilities to encouraging staff and students with out-of-the-ordinary promotions. In 1996, after twenty-three years, Elaine retired and she and Jack continued traveling until He was called Home in 2011. In 2012, God granted Elaine’s dream of walking where Jesus walked in the Holy Land with many King of Kings friends. After living in St. Louis for 90 years, Elaine moved to Sheridan, Arkansas to live with her granddaughter, Stephanie Wyatt, and her family.
Elaine loved her family: her late husband and two children; two grandchildren, Andrew Shearman and Stephanie (Deric) Wyatt; and three great-grandchildren, Madigan Chester, Kohl and Claire Wyatt; her late brother, Roy (Virginia) Baese; her brother in-law, the late Tom (Shirley) Shearman and sister-in-law Lois (Ernie) Foster; nieces, nephews and cousins as well as the many friends she made over the years, especially those with whom she could share the experience, strength and hope of an ever-growing personal relationship with God. She was in awe of seeing “God-in-action” in her own life and in the lives of others, as well as His faithfulness to His Word and His Character.
On March 3, 2025, at the age of 93 years old, the Lord called Elaine home to Heaven to be with Him, fulfilling all of His promises to her.
Elaine’s Celebration Service will be held at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 13765 Olive Blvd., Chesterfield, MO 63017 on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 3:00 p.m Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until time of service.
