Barbara Gail Click's Obituary
“Thus am I, a feather on the breath of God.”
Barbi often used this image to describe a life guided not by force, but by faith—lifted by the Holy Spirit and carried where love was needed most.
Barbara Gail Click entered eternal rest on Friday, March 13, 2026, at DeGreeff Hospice House in St. Louis, Missouri, surrounded by family and friends at her bedside. Barbi was born on August 26, 1953, in Cleburne, Texas, to Jay and Barbara Click. She attended L.D. Bell High School and later earned her Master’s degree from Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth in 2005.
She worked for many years as Environmental Coordinator at the Tarrant Regional Water District in Fort Worth until becoming a stay-at-home parent to her grandson. After moving to St. Louis in 2008, Barbi continued her lifelong commitment to service, becoming Food Ministry Manager at Trinity Episcopal Church in the Central West End, a role she faithfully served until her retirement in 2025. Ordained as a Deacon in the Episcopal Church in 2018, she continued her diaconal ministry at Christ Church Cathedral (Episcopal), then served at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Carondelet until returning to serve at Christ Church Cathedral. She served as the Jubilee Ministry Missioner for the Diocese of Missouri and a Companion of The Rivendell Community.
Barbi’s greatest passion was her ministry of love, dignity, and radical welcome to all
people—especially for her beloveds who came to Trinity Food Pantry, where her guiding words became a living creed: Love Always, Always Love.
She loved traveling with her wife, Debbie, in their motorhome and little red Jeep, kayaking to the soothing sound of the river, and whittling her favorite pieces of wood. A gifted preacher and writer, Barbi shared her spiritual reflections on her blog, Feathers and Faith.
She is survived by her beloved wife, Debbie Sparks Wheeler; her daughter, Amanda Wright; her sons, Joshua (Karri) Wheeler and Matthew (Kyle) Wheeler; her grandchildren, Kyleigh Wacasey, Caleb Wheeler, Kason Wacasey, Abby Wheeler, and Allie Wheeler; five great-grandchildren, and her sister, Joella Click Simmons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jay and Barbara Click, and her grand/son, Tucker Wright.
Like a feather on the breath of God, Barbi trusted where love carried her—and in doing so, lifted all who walked beside her.
